Carolyn Darahoj

Carolyn Lee Darahoj (née McIvor) passed away peacefully at her home in Transcona at the age of 79. Her life was defined by devotion, quiet strength, and deep love for her family.

Carolyn was the eldest sibling and carried that role with grace throughout her life. She shared close bonds with her younger sisters, Shawn Spronken (Peter) and Holly Toews (Larry). Her family relied on her steady presence, thoughtful guidance, and unwavering loyalty.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Allan Darahoj, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage rooted in commitment, partnership, and love. He was often teased for always holding her hand — even making it difficult to shift gears in the car — a small but telling reflection of the closeness they shared. Family was always Carolyn's priority, and she dedicated herself fully to those she loved.

Carolyn was a devoted mother to her daughters, Tracy Lamoureux (née Darahoj) (Darrell), and Tara Tulloch (née Darahoj) (Alvin). She took immense pride in her children and supported them with unconditional love throughout every stage of their lives.

She was a proud grandmother to Cody, Alex (Howard), Matthieu (Jenna-Rae), and Nicole (Rayne). Her joy extended across generations to her seven great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Many people knew Carolyn as Grandma Cookie — a name that perfectly captured one of her greatest joys: feeding people. Carolyn was a terrific baker, and food was one of the ways she showed her love, always ensuring that no one ever left hungry.

Carolyn will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the unwavering way she showed up for the people she loved. She never missed a concert, recital, or sports game, and her presence was always known and felt. Her love was constant and visible — something her family could rely on, always.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Home.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I’m so deeply sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. She was such a special person, she made us feel like her home was our home too. Losing someone so important is never easy, and my heart is with you during this difficult time. I keep thinking back to those days at the cabin—how we’d all be completely wrapped up in having fun, and she was the one who kept us in line, making sure we stayed safe even when that was the last thing on our minds. It’s a memory that always makes me smile, and a reminder of how caring, strong, and steady she was. Please know that I’m thinking of you and sending you strength, comfort, and love. If you need anything—someone to talk to, a quiet moment, or a little help with everyday things—I’m here for you. Wishing you peace as you hold onto the memories that will always stay with you.
